The Olympics were banned for many years until its revival; this revival is called the modern Olympics. Modern Olympics hosted 14 countries its first year and it kept growing and growing and still is growing today. The Olympics have many sports but a sure favorite is the alpine race. The alpine race was introduced in 1924 and remains a sport played in the Olympics today. The Olympic Games are still thriving today because it creates great history, because many people watch their favorite events, and because the Olympics unit all nations. First, the modern Olympics have been around for nearly a century and a half and still strives today. The modern Olympics started back up in 1896 after nearly 1,500 years due to the games being banned. The games were banned because Roman Emperor Theodosius I banned all pagan festivals. (Nostos) Since then the Olympics have only been canceled three times due to war. The first modern Olympics where held in Athens Greece in 1886. (Gettings) This was the idea of Barren Pierre of France; he helped revive the games with many other people. Although the games resumed in 1896, the winter games had not yet been added to the Olympics. (IndinaServer) The winter games would be added later in 1924. The modern Olympics are a great part of our world today and we would be lost without them. Next, the winter games have many great sports played, but a favorite to many people is the downhill ski race. Many people enjoy this race because it is a very intense and fun event to watch. In this event many countries can compete but only one can win, in this event Switzerland is predicted to win the men’s race and the United States is predicated to win for the women’s.(Espn) The alpine ski race is highly anticipated so these predictions are well thought out. Alpine skiing is an event many countries are good at, but the country who has won the most medals is Austria with 101 medals.(Wikianswers) Austria also leads in most gold medals with 30 medals won. This is a great sport, but without the players, there is no sport. One of these great U.S players is Lindsey Vonn. Lindsey Vonn is the only American woman to ever win gold medal at the Olympics. (ALL OUT) Lindsey Vonn has also won three World Cup titles. The Alpine Ski Race is a favorite to many people around the globe. The Olympics’ is a great way for nations to unite even in times of trouble, and it keeps the world connected with each other. The Olympics will hopefully continue to strive and expand for many generations to come. The Olympics’ have strived so well because it makes great history, because many people observe their favorite sports, and because the Olympics bring together all nations.
